Russia’s Trade with Afghanistan
In the 2nd quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Afghanistan was $28,245,900, down 44.02% ($22,209,995) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.
Russia’s exports to Afghanistan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 were $26,876,403, down 46.06% ($22,945,556) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.
Russia’s imports from Afghanistan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 totaled $1,369,497, up 116.03% ($735,561) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.
Russia’s trade surplus with Afghanistan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 was $25,506,906, a 48.14% decrease ($23,681,117) over the 2nd quarter of 2020.
Afghanistan was Russia’s 118th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (down from 95th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0149% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0414% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).
Afghanistan was Russia’s 106th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (down from 80th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0234% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0713% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).
Afghanistan was Russia’s 128th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (down from 127th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0018% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0012% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).
Russia’s Exports to Afghanistan
The major share of Russian exports to Afghanistan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 50.11% of Russia’s total exports to Afghanistan (67.77% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
- Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 24.94% of Russia’s total exports to Afghanistan (15.73% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 17.15% of Russia’s total exports to Afghanistan (9.74% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.74% of Russia’s total exports to Afghanistan (1.35% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.83% of Russia’s total exports to Afghanistan (4.14% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).
The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Afghanistan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 over the 2nd quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $556,735;
- Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $302,490;
- Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $253,157;
- Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $230,785;
- Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $195,039.
The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Afghanistan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 over the 2nd quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:
