Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 2nd quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Brazil totaled $1,795,532,675, up 89.41% ($847,583,802) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2021 totaled $1,082,308,591, up 143.65% ($638,099,939) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2021 totaled $713,224,084, up 41.59% ($209,483,863) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade balance with Brazil went from a deficit of $59,531,569 in the 2nd quarter of 2020, to a surplus of $369,084,507 in the 2nd quarter of 2021.

Brazil was Russia’s 20th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (up from 26th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.9488% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.7770% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

Brazil was Russia’s 21st largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (up from 30th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.9409% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.6353% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

Brazil was Russia’s 21st largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (up from 24th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.9610% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.9671% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 65.75% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (80.85% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 25.14% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (13.68% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.94% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (3.10% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.25% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (0.19% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.54% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.83% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $6,445,003.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2021 over the 2nd quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $8,531,393;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $4,199,432.
