Russia’s Trade with Japan

In the 2nd quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Japan totaled $5,138,189,379, up 33.40% ($1,286,385,550) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 totaled $2,837,209,579, up 27.92% ($619,318,566) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 totaled $2,300,979,800, up 40.83% ($667,066,984) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade surplus with Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 was $536,229,779, a 8.18% decrease ($47,748,418) over the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Japan was Russia’s 13th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (down from 11th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 2.7151% of Russia’s total trade (down from 3.1570% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

Japan was Russia’s 12th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (down from 9th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 2.4665% of Russia’s total exports (down from 3.1721% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

Japan was Russia’s 8th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (down from 7th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 3.1003% of Russia’s total imports (down from 3.1368% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Japan

The major share of Russian exports to Japan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 66.71% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (72.99% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.87% of Russia’s total exports to Japan (5.58% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
