Russia’s Trade with Turkmenistan

In the 2nd quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Turkmenistan was $219,692,550, down 39.76% ($144,981,853) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Turkmenistan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 totaled $179,429,124, up 22.22% ($32,615,221) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Turkmenistan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 were $40,263,426, down 81.52% ($177,597,074) from the 2nd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade balance with Turkmenistan went from a deficit of $71,046,597 in the 2nd quarter of 2020, to a surplus of $139,165,698 in the 2nd quarter of 2021.

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 73rd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (down from 54th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.1161% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2989% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 61st largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (down from 59th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.1560% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2100% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 79th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (down from 39th in the 2nd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0542% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.4183% in the 2nd quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Turkmenistan

The major share of Russian exports to Turkmenistan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 18.89% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (19.70% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 17.14% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (22.41% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.35% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (19.24% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 12.84% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (30.56% in the 2nd quarter of 2020);

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $1,068,415;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $552,530.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Turkmenistan in the 2nd quarter of 2021 over the 2nd quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:
