Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 4th quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Brazil totaled $2,578,264,066, up 115.20% ($1,380,201,770) from the 4th quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2021 totaled $2,000,900,552, up 192.95% ($1,317,893,215) from the 4th quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2021 totaled $577,363,514, up 12.10% ($62,308,555) from the 4th quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade surplus with Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2021 was $1,423,537,038, a 747.58% increase ($1,255,584,660) over the 4th quarter of 2020.

Brazil was Russia’s 18th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2021 (up from 30th in the 4th quarter of 2020), accounting for 1.1092% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.7393% in the 4th quarter of 2020).

Brazil was Russia’s 18th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2021 (up from 29th in the 4th quarter of 2020), accounting for 1.3287% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.7233% in the 4th quarter of 2020).

Brazil was Russia’s 27th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2021 (down from 26th in the 4th quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.7054% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.7616% in the 4th quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2021 (and in the 4th quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 75.86% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (66.88% in the 4th quarter of 2020);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 19.46% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (23.68% in the 4th quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.22% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (3.10% in the 4th quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.74% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.04% in the 4th quarter of 2020);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.48% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (4.99% in the 4th quarter of 2020).

  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $14,153,837;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $8,408,202.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2021 over the 4th quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $17,090,603;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $14,645,598;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $8,487,792;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $8,336,635.

Russia’s Imports from Brazil

The major share of Russian imports from Brazil in the 4th quarter of 2021 (and in the 4th quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.21% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (15.51% in the 4th quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.52% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (3.33% in the 4th quarter of 2020);
